Millennium Park- Chicago, IL

Published On: Mar 14, 2007

Millennium Park in Chicago celebrates all of the greatness of the city and provides just the right atmosphere for any fun in the sun activities your family wants to enjoy while you are in Chicago, Illinois.

Why has this Chicago park quickly become one of the most popular family attractions in Chicago?

One reason is the architecture and landscape of Millennium Park. The BP Bridge provides families with the chance to see an unparalleled view of the city, Grant Park and Lake Michigan. The Millennium Monument in Wrigley Square welcomes families who are looking for a chance to sit back and relax and just take in the sights of the park.

For those who want to take in the sounds of Millennium Park as well as the sights, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion is a must-visit location. This outdoor concert venue in the park was designed to distribute sound as it would be in an indoor concert hall. Whether you are taking in a concert from the Pavilion seats or you are sitting on the lawn for any of the free concert events, you can be sure that you are able to hear every note played.

For those who would prefer indoor entertainment, Millennium Park offers the Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music and Dance. At this Chicago attraction, you and your family can enjoy performances of the ballet, operatic music or even just listen to the stories told by folk singers.

However, in addition to the arts and the architecture of Millennium Park, not all of the Chicago park's attractions involve looking and listening.

The Lurie Garden allows visitors to tour through beautiful gardens. You will be able to see different types of perennials and bulbs, a wide variety of grasses, trees and shrubs. From the first blossoms of spring, to full summer blooms to fall and winter plants, the Lurie Garden has something to offer year-round.

A summertime highlight for visitors to Chicago's Millennium Park is the Crown Fountain. Two towers of glass blocks, one at each end of a reflecting pool, project images of the people of Chicago and provide one of the most popular family attractions in Chicago.

During the fall and winter, when the water is not turned on to Crown Fountain, the attraction remains popular, in part because the images are projected year round. But for those who are looking for more activity in the fall and winter months, another Chicago family attraction is the McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink.

The McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink give visitors a great view of the Michigan Avenue streetwall as well free ice skating for those who bring their own skates - though rentals and lessons are also available.

But, of course, like everything else at Millennium Park in Chicago, even the McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink are not just designed for use during one season. During the summer months, this area of Millennium Park serves as an outdoor grill and restaurant.

Millennium Park has been designed as a year round attraction, a place where families and couples can visit and take in the sights and sounds of Chicago. See for yourself why it is among the most famous parks in Chicago.
