Keefer's Restaurant

Down on Kinzie Street in Chicago there is a steakhouse that reviewers are bullish on. But Keefer's is more than just a steakhouse; it's a steak and seafood house, and we don't mean some crabby little joint either.

From the moment you walk up to the convex face, windowed and lighted with elegance from head to toe, you see the quality of the name. Comfortable seating and an open environment allow diners to feel at ease as they taste some of the best fine steak and seafood in the city. Antique radios, microphones, and other paraphernailia adorn the walls of the dining areas, giving locals and out-of-towners a reason to take a trip down memory lane. The bar soothes and welcomes, giving off a pleasant view of North River. Outside, the patio provides guests a welcome bit of sunlight in Chicago's breezy summers while the staff delivers on its signature classy service.

Keefer's Steak and Seafood Restaurant offers a lunch and dinner menu as well as a Kaffe for guests who like to eat and run. The Kaffe features a giant plasma screen TV and a stock and quote board for keeping up with the day's events. For groups of 40 or more, private dining is available in the Kaffe by special arrangements. Thanks to native Chicagoan and world-class chef John Hogan, Keefer's has earned a three star rating from both the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times, making it the only restaurant in the city to achieve such an honored distinction.

The Keefers are so discriminating in their tastes that they go to the trouble of making a serving of water the most spectacular work of art imaginable. The restaurant's turquoise glass and bottle set on every table are hand blow in Mexico and carefully selected by restaurant owner and general manager Glenn Keefer himself. The glasses and bottles have become so popular that Keefer's has received repeated requests to purchase them and, finally, they relented and now offer sets for sale to the public.

In January 2006, Keefer's decided to convert into a smoke-free environment and so far has remained true to its New Year's resolution to keep it that way. The Chicago City Council passed an ordinance requiring all businesses to go smoke free by July 1, 2008, but Keefer's owners and managers decided to comply with the ordinance long before then, a testament to their respect for their customers' health and comfort.

Whether you are looking for a restaurant to impress a date, to take a client for that important business meeting, or just enjoy an afternoon family outing, Keefer's has a lot to offer, in ambience and cuisine. It's menu is a delectable list of treats and you can enjoy a fine dining experience whether you are out for a sandwich or a full course meal.

From the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail to the Asparagus wrapped in Prosciutto, the appetizers are interesting and unyielding. You'll find everything from red wine and cognac to shoe string potatoes in the recipes and whatever your tastes may be you'll know that your order will be prepared with care and mercy. Even the soups and salads are not ordinary but crafted with the best of ingredients, artful presentations, and served fresh any time of year.

The steaks are made with prime meat, USDA grade, bone in or out, seasoned with salt and pepper, and topped with Maitre D' Butter. An array of sauces are available upon request to include Hollandaise, Bordelaise, and Bearnaise. And if that isn't enough, the seafood and chicken menus are just as mouthwatering. Care to stay for dessert? You won't be disappointed there either. Chocolate Pudding, Apple Tart, Lemon Parfait, Cheese Cake, and homemade ice cream and sorbet. Keefer's has the treat for every palate.

Guests are encouraged to make reservations. Keefer's is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.
