Chicago: Sports
Chicago is passionate about its sports teams, and part of the full experience is to see a game. The Bulls, who dominated the court during the early '90's with the dazzling dunks of Michael Jordan; the Bears, who with much hype, and a "Fridge" on the field, won the 1985 Super Bowl; the White Sox, who in 2005 captured their first World Series Championship in 88 years; and the well-adored Cubbies, in their seemingly endless struggle for their first World Series Championship since 1908. Although these teams are all Chicago icons; the Cubs and Wrigley Field have the greatest appeal.
Wrigley Field
Built in 1914, Wrigley Field is one of the only vintage ball parks still around. All the others, except for Fenway, have spiraled down into the corporate advertising abyss, yet Wrigley still represents what baseball stood for back in the day. The history and longevity alone make for generations of dedicated fans.
What can be said about Wrigley's allure? The excitement of multi-home runs blasts when the wind is "blowing out"… Singing "Take Me out to the Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch (in honor of the late great announcer Harry Caray)... Experiencing a game where baseball exudes a love for the sport... A century-long quest for a World Series Championship… Who knows – all of the above? Regardless, for the fans, when springtime rolls around and the Cubbies trot on to Wrigley, it seems like everything else just fades into the backdrop…
